Berlin,  24th of March 2015

After the great success of the 2013 edition, the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB), in cooperation with the London Film School and the National Film School of Denmark, is now launching the third year of the postgraduate training programme SERIAL EYES – Experiencing the Writers’ Room. Over the course of 8 months, from September to May, the programme offers 12 participants compact, intensive training in new modes of work in development and production of serial formats.

Late admission: 31st March 2015

More information about the programme and admission requirements can be found here: www.serial-eyes.com/

SERIAL EYES is structured as an eight-month full-time taught course at the DFFB and includes a two-week teaching module at the LFS in London, a workshop during MIP TV in Cannes and a workshop at the National Film School of Denmark in Copenhagen.

This year the programme once again boasts top-notch international lecturers, including the renowned American showrunner Frank Spotnitz (“The X File”, “Hunted”), Ben Harris (“The Musketeers”, “Hunted”), Jeffrey Bell (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, “Alias”) as well as Ben Harris, deputy head of the Producers Program at UCLA and Sven Clausen, three-time winner of the Emmy Award for Danish serial Drama and Nicola Lusuardi. The team of lecturers will again include commissioning editors from broadcasters such as RTL, SKY, CANAL+, ZDF, etc. We have also welcomed Guests of Honor such as Julian Fellowes (‘Downton Abbey’) and Tom Fontana (‘Oz’, ‘Copper’, ‘Borgia’).

Laurent Mercier (one of the participants in the first year) was recruited straight away to the Writers’ Room for ‘The Club’ in Berlin. It was during the SERIAL EYES programme that Laurent met German producer Felix Von Boehm, who hired him for the show. Also after attending Serial Eyes, Sullivan le Postec was asked by Love My TV and Making Prod to create “Anonymous”, a six part thriller series he’s currently developing.

SERIAL EYES is developed in conjunction with experts from the international television world. The aim is to contribute to fostering the evolution of serials formats thanks to new ideas and approaches, coupled with a network for future international co-productions. A new generation of young, well-trained screenwriters and producers is vitally important to enable this kind of development, breaking away from existing structures and initiating new formats.

In addition to the cooperation partners – the London Film School and the National Film School of Denmark – further partners and sponsors of SERIAL EYES include: Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme of the European Union, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, RTL, Real Film and Atlantique Productions.
